POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

21st Century Skills

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving)

During this session, I think I’ve grown a lot creatively. I struggled a lot with the code of the Fire Extinguisher and the Crate but even though it took a while, I managed to figure it out. Due to the fact, I am artistically challenged I did most of the code since we didn’t need character art right away. However, I overcame my uncertainty and things ended alright. I think my main challenge was the Tilemap that ruined the game until I redid some of the code, this was a week before the due date and was what caused my slides to be behind.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

Due to the issues that happened in the last session, I didn’t have a team because we were all individuals. I think most of us did our part and worked together to create an experience that was visually and functionally as we intended. I also saw how a lack of communication could be a problem, with the music situation. Not only was the music added without us knowing but we were only told right before we got to present. This caused an overall worse experience that could’ve been prevented if the change was brought up at all.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I don’t think I exactly learned any new pieces of media but I got better. Before, it took two sessions to learn and create a game but now it took half the time for a better result. I think it’s because I’m starting to remember the names of the commands better as well as just working smarter.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

I feel slightly more confident in myself and my abilities. I managed to put a lot of pressure on myself due to the fact I had to do most of the code myself. Also, I’d not been willing to work on this on my off-time much but I felt dedicated and put in more time than I thought.

Reactions to the Final Version

Nellie and Jessica were the advisors of our game, a few critiques they had were:

The Music.

The lack of props around the map, made it feel empty.

The size of the map had a lot of empty space.

A few positives they had were:

Our game’s main mechanic

Our game’s space concept

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I believe our idea worked relatively well but we were missing many components that we wanted to add. We had an interesting mechanic that was easy to learn and a bunch of weapons that spiced up gameplay. We were planning on many interesting concepts for gameplay but the story is currently in the developmental stage. Our next plans if we were to revisit the game next session would probably be puzzles and decorations for the map.
